Cal’s Track and Field Team
It’s a new dawn for the Cal Track Team. Long-time coach Susan Jansen passed the baton to Preston Jackson this year, but Cal’s runners never lost a step. They took to the field, boys and girls alike and started running, jumping, and throwing their way through practice and competition.
The results have been astonishing. Under bright spring skies, Cal’s track team has won some impressive awards. In the Seventh Grade Boys’ Division, Cal Middle’s athletes racked up an impressive first place finish in the SCUSD City-wide Track Tournament, edging second place Brannan by 8 points! Some of the highlights were the boys’ victory in the 4 x 100 relay, as well as George Tzikas and Jordan Montero’s 1-2 finish in the 200. Jordan’s dominance was essential to Cal’s victory, as he garnered first place finishes in 100 and the long jump as well. For the eighth graders, Patrick Confer threw the shot put an astonishing 36’ 10” for a first place finish, while Cassandra Cappara and Rodney Dixon finished second and third respectively in the Girls and Boys 400.
It was a great season for Cal’s team, and next spring many key members will be back in the starting blocks, getting ready for another successful season.
