HEALTHY CHILDREN LEARN BETTER

Your school nurse is Suzanne Auchterlonie, RN, FNP.  She is a resident of Land Park and has had a son attend this school and another to attend in the 2007-2008 school year. She welcomes any calls regarding the health of yourchild and will do what she can to assist you. The school nurse is a credentialed RN who provides counseling, primary health care and emergency care for staff, students and parents.  Except in emergencies, students who wish to see the nurse MUST have a pass from a teacher

Four important points:

Emergency Cards It is essential that that all students have an updated emergency card on file. In the event of illness or injury we need to be able to contact a parent or guardian. Please inform the school of any phone or address changes promptly.

Chronic Medical Conditions Please inform the nurse if your child has a chronic medical condition such as diabetes, asthma, headaches etc. You are encouraged to come in and or call the nurse to discuss the condition so that we are aware of the special needs of the student. It is our mission to keep the students safe and healthy throughout the school year. All conversations are kept confidential.

Medication Medication to be taken during the school day must be provided by the parent or legal guardian and is dispensed to the student through the nurse or her trained designees. The physician and legal guardian must complete the Authorization for Administration of Medication by School Personnel form for all medications and are to be renewed yearly.  These forms are available in the school nurse’s office. All medication must be delivered to the school nurse/ office staff by parent or guardian in the original pharmacy container. Students are not permitted to carry prescription or non-prescription medicine, it must be stored in the nurse’s office.  One exception is asthma inhalers prescribed by a medical provider. We encourage parents to obtain permission from the providers for those children with asthma to have their rescue inhalers at school in the event of breathing difficulties.

Immunizations California state law requires each student to have immunizations up to date. Exclusion is required for failure to comply with these requirements. All students are required to be immunized against Polio, DPT, MMR (2 shots), and Hepatitis B (three shots).
