Contact: holte@sac-city.k12.ca.us
Hometown: Edina, Minnesota
Education: Ms. Holt received her Bachelor of Arts with departmental honors in English Literature from Middlebury College, where she sang Soprano I with the Mischords for four years. In 1996, she moved to California to study in the Graduate English Department at U.C. Davis. After receiving her Master of Arts in Creative Writing, she completed her Single Subject Teaching Credential with CLAD.
Hobbies/Interests: Ms. Holt enjoys playing drums with an all-female rock band, growing garden vegetables, reading, writing poetry and essays, and taking classes in yoga and meditation. She submits poems to many Tier I literary journals on a regular basis, and plans to sneak them into FORMICA, Cal’s journal of literature and arts – of which she is self-proclaimed Editor-in-Chief -- on a regular basis. She also coordinates the Cal Poetry Jam and coaches the Spirit Squad. Next year, she hopes to offer an elective in French Language and Culture.
Misc: She believes that literature holds a unique power to educate the human mind, heart, and spirit. In their pursuit of literary enlightenment, her classes read and write about everything from Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex to contemporary American poetry. She especially delights in maintaining the great Cal tradition – once a national tradition – of reading Julius Caesar at around the age of twelve.
