Drum Line
Cal’s Drum Line is a bit of a miracle. The drums are a gift from McClatchy’s champion drum line, the coaching from Cal alum, David Weiss, the funding from the Passage Program, and the spirit, well that comes from Cal students! Almost every day, the reverberations of Cal’s very own rhythm section boom through the hall at 2:30 PM. The practice builds up to a performance at the AVID Talent Show, although there are hopes that the Drum Line will appear at basketball games next year.
The Drum Line is one of those special programs that gets kids who are often a bit outside of the mainstream and helps them build skills as well as a connection to the school. It is part of a web of programs that keep Cal students from falling through the cracks. It’s also a great way to develop a sense of rhythm.
