Art
Art is part of the elective wheel; it is a nine-week course designed to give the students a level understanding and experience in the fundamentals of Art. During the nine-week course, we will cover the following topics:
I. Elements of Arts--Students will do warm up exercises and projects designed to familiarize them with the elements of Art. We will focus on LINE, COLOR, SHAPE, FORM, VALUE, TEXTURE and SPACE.
II. Head and Figure--students will learn the basic proportions of the human head and face, and the human figure. Projects vary but can include the basics of portrait drawing, gesture drawing or Big People. Some classes choose cartooning as an alternative.
III. Color Wheel and color mixing --students will learn and paint a color wheel consisting of the primary and secondary colors. They will be shown how to mix colors and change values. We will probably use watercolors. Some classes may prefer to do this with poster paints. Then we paint pictures.
IV. Multi-cultural Art--students will have a chance to experience art from other cultures. We have a variety of projects for this unit: Cave Art where we look at pictures from the pre-historic caves of Altimira, Spain and Lascaux, France. Then we do our own cave art. We also do Ojo de Dios, yarn painting and cutouts. Some classes prefer to do Aboriginal art--dot paintings or x-ray paintings.
