Cal Middle School has beginning orchestra for students who have never played an instrument before. No prior experience is necessary to enroll in this class, only a desire to learn to play an instrument and a willingness to practice. This group’s first performance is at the Winter Concert in December.
Our advanced orchestra is open to 7th graders who have previous experience either in an after school elementry program or private lessons. A letter of recommendation from that teacher is encouraged. This ensemble is primarily made up of 8th grade students who begin at Cal in 7th grade. This is the main performing group for the orchestra. Students from this group participate in CMEA Capital Section and SCUSD honor groups as well as large and small ensemble festivals.
