On December 14, 2013, the CAL debate team took home every top honor possible at the Churchill Winter Classic Tournament! This was the Capital Region Debate League’s largest tournament ever, with 66 teams and 99 speakers! Cal grabbed the two team trophies, highest number of wins and highest percentage of wins (75% wins – unimaginable!!!). We also had more speakers in the top ten than any other school, and more teams in the top five.
Greetings, Cal families. We are now in the third quarter of the school year. This is a perfect time to remind all students how important it is to continue a focus on SIC behavior and high academic achievement. A strong finish to the school year will ensure that students are fully-prepared for the next school year. We are extremely proud of their effort, thus far.
We are pleased to announce that we will soon assess all students for their independent reading level and incorporate the Accelerated Reader program into our language arts curriculum. Students will be able to choose books in their areas of interest and earn credit for reading by completing short assessments on each book. The program tracks students’ progress, and through our BEAR Club (Be Excited About Reading), students will be rewarded for achieving the goal of reading at least one million words.
